Greetings!
We’ve got some good stuff coming up this weekend in the Austin Area! Play your cards right and you can see a show Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
Friday Night – Tejano Ranch – Grupo Solido y Grupo Siggno
Start your weekend off with some Norteño at Tejano Ranch with Grupo Solido and Grupo Siggno. And…that’s all we’ve got for that one. Maybe it should be called Norteño Ranch tomorrow? You know, just sayin’…
Friday Night – Iron Horse Bar & Grill – Conjunto Romo
According to their bio on their Myspace page, Kyle-based Conjunto Romo is aptly named, composed entirely of Romos…youngsters Cedrick on lead vocals and main accordion, Noe on Bajo Sexto, and JJ on drums. Navor Romo Jr plays bass and is the second voice. The group counts Jimmy Garcia and Los Enmascarados as influences and has been signed to Joey Records.
Given the nickname Los Little Rascals of Conjunto by Los Dos Gilbertos, this group looks like it has a bright future ahead.
Rancho Alegre hasn’t had the pleasure of checking out the Iron Horse yet, but we’re enormously happy that it refers to itself as a Conjunto club! On that basis alone, we are hopeful for its success. It’s located on Airport Boulevard, just south of Oak Springs. Check it out and support Conjunto in Austin!
Saturday Night – Dance for Hope Benefit for Anna Sanchez – Yayo Castillo y Rumores – Flamingo Ballroom
I already wrote a blog post about this event…but long story short this is a benefit for Anna Sanchez, who is battling cancer. Yayo Castillo y Rumores, Max Castillo y Conjunto Lumbre and Ryan Castillo will be performing.
Sunday Afternoon – Los Texas Wranglers – Little Mexico Restaurant
And last but not least, how about a tardeada to finish off the weekend? As a pre-game party before the Cowboys game, Julian Fernandez and Los Texas Wranglers will be playing at Little Mexico (2301 S. First St.) Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 pm. Cost is $10 and menudo and tamales will be served after the dance.
