Wednesday night, Rancho Alegre piled in the cruiser and headed down south to Applebees on William Cannon and I-35 for our first Traffic Jam Mix Show. We enjoyed a lovely sunset, a cool breeze, food and drink, and spent some quality time with the crew from Para La Gente 1560 AM and, most importantly, got to check out the Tejano Dawgs.

Since it was a school  night for us, we didn’t stay long enough to check out a special appearance by Ruben Ramos, but we’re sure it was fantastic. Gato always puts on a great show.

Tejano Dawgs Tear It Up

But really, what else would you expect from a group made of up of members of the Mexican Revolution? We were impressed with the set selection, too. They played many of our favorites, all of which are on Rancho Alegre Radio.

The Dawgs opened with a great cover of the Tres Amigos version of Cartas Marcadas, which as we all know is Frank’s favorite song. They then launched into the Roberto Pulido classic Flecha Envenenada, with Rick Fuentes switching from keys to accordion. They went on to Fito Olivares’ cumbia Juana Cubana and my personal favorite, Latin Breed’s Todos Dicen. They even branched out to some R&B with Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together.  As usual, Wild Bill and Fabian brought the big brass sound, making it all look easy.

Unfortunately, we had to leave after that. But it was a great experience, and the band was top notch. If you ever have the opportunity check out the Tejano Dawgs, and you love classic Tejano, you definitely won’t be disappointed.
