The event will also feature a special appearance by Conjunto accordion legend Rene Joslin, who recently performed at the Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival in February 2012, coming out of retirement after 14 years.
Tickets are $12 at the door and $10 presale at Estrada’s Cleaners on 7th Street, at Turntable Records on South 1st and online.
Mas Conjuntazzo will be available in stores and online May 29th and features a special appearance by bajo sexto player Juan Barco, best known as the writer of the Tejano anthem, “Don Luis El Tejano.” Guzman and Fox are accompanied on the album by Mario Hernandez on bass and Chente Barrera on drums. The new project was mixed and mastered by studio wiz Gilbert Velasquez
About Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox
Guzman has long been known for his amazing skill, versatility and virtuosity, with projects ranging from Blues to Rock to Americana and of course, his roots, Tejano and Conjunto. In 2005, Guzman won a Grammy award for Best Tejano Album, along with fellow Tejano accordion masters David Lee Garza and Sunny Sauceda, for their album, Polkas, Gritos y Acordeones.
Fox is a gifted bilingual singer-songwriter with an equally diverse body of work who has been the driving force behind Conjuntazzo, Los Aztex, and the Latin Rock outfit Latinology. Together, their musical excursions have crossed many borders and have forged a unique partnership, which helped to inspire this new project.
Guzman and Fox recently hosted Squeezebox Mania, their own yearly accordion festival, at Jovita’s in April, and also headlined the 22nd Annual Austin Tejano Conjunto Festival on May 6th. They are scheduled to play at the 31st Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio on Saturday, May 19th.
