Established in 2012, the Los Fresnos High School Conjunto Program is changing students' lives along the Texas/Mexico Borderlands. Under the direction of Juan Longoria Jr., the conjunto program "motivates its students to work hard, stay in school, and strive for their dreams, simply by teaching them to play the music that is an integral part of their cross-cultural identity." (Clayton Maxwell, Texas Highways) Program founder and director, Juan Longoria Jr. is an award-winning accordionist. Longoria is the inagural winner of The Big Squeeze Statewide Accordion Contest produced every spring by Texas Folklife. Longoria also fronts his own group, CONTEÑO.* Under the direction of Longoria, Conjunto Halcón has earned awards including recieving a rating of 1 under the UIL** Experimental Music Category. 

These talented young students have performed at various cultural arts events across the state and will be making their Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival debut on Sunday, May 7th! 

*Conteño is an acronym for the three distinct styles of music the group blends together to make up their unique sound: Conjunto, Tejano, and Norteño.
