Greetings from Rancho Alegre!
In addition to being a holiday week, there are some great shows going on this week as well. There’s a little something for everyone…Ruben Ramos and Javier Galvan of Fama at the Flamingo, The Hometown Boys and Los Mungiazz at H&H, Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz at Tejano Ranch, A.B. Quintanilla’s All Starz at the Fiesta Ballroom in Seguin…. Hopefully everyone’s still around to enjoy it all!
Wednesday night at the Flamingo – Ruben Ramos and Javier Galvan. la Voz de Fama
Javier Galvan left Fama to pursue ministry full time in 2009, But he’s taking time out to come perform in Austin Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the rest of the guys have continued on with Grupo Fama with new singer Gabe Rivera, and also has a new single from its upcoming album, The Golden Boys. We’ve added the single, Sirveme Tequila, to Rancho Alegre Radio, where it joins other Fama classics like Amor Sin Fin and Cuando Quieras Regresar. It’s nice to see that the guys are carrying on the band that Javier Galvan helped make. Javier will be missed, but Gabe is coming into his own.
Then the ever-charismatic Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution invade the stage, armed with El Gato Negro’s vast catalog of Tejano classics and standards and the Revolution’s top-notch sound. Rancho Alegre Radio has more Ruben Ramos than you can shake a stick at, from the beginning of his career and from his latest album, Revolutionized.
Friday Night at the H&H Ballroom – The Hometown Boys and Los Mungiazz
Conjunto reigns supreme Friday night in south Austin! Los Mungiazz is a Conjunto, that, in our opinion, deserves more of the spotlight. Traditional sounds with uptempo beats that bring new hope that Conjunto is making a comeback. We feature Amorcito Consentido and El Cisne on Rancho Alegre Radio.
Then The Hometown Boys, a Rancho Alegre favorite, take the stage. A legendary Conjunto band that was then adopted by the Tejano machine after becoming greatly successful, The Hometown Boys continue to record and tour despite the deaths of Martinez brothers, Roman Jr, Joe, Jesse and Ricky. We’ve got classic tracks on Rancho Alegre Radio, as well as rare tracks from The Hometown Boys Live, and a couple from their latest release, Simplemente El Jefe.
Friday Night at Tejano Ranch – Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz
Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz head up North Lamar ready to party at Tejano Ranch on Friday night. With a career spanning over three decades, Jimmy’s a legend in the business, winning awards and also famously putting up with the antics of previous singer Joe Lopez (we all know the “No Show Joe” reputation). But Jimmy continues to be prolific, writing and recording new material, including their latest hit, Mi Vida Sin Tu Amor, from their latest album of the same name. Rancho Alegre Radio features tracks from that album, and a multitude of recordings from Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, and rare classics from Mazz as well.
Saturday Night at Fiesta Ballroom in Seguin – A.B. Quintanilla’s All Starz
The cumbia machine rolls into Seguin Saturday night with A. B. Quintanilla’s All Starz! We here at Rancho Alegre are happy to see A.B. return to his roots and do an old-fashioned Tejano dance hall where people can actually dance to his music. Because joining the Mexican/Norteño spotlight and doing large auditoriums and stadiums, you lose the intimacy of seeing a Tejano artist, and what their fans go to a show for. Tejanos love to take pictures, get autographs and talk to their favorite artists after a show. Try that in a stadium. So, if it took the Kumbia Kings breaking up for A.B. to come back his roots, we are happy. Of course we include his latest hits with the All Starz, Mentirosa and Hipnotika, as well as several previous recordings with the Kumbia Kings on Rancho Alegre Radio.
