AUSTIN, TEXAS -- Due to the public health crisis surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Austin-based nonprofit organization Rancho Alegre has officially cancelled its 2020 Rancho Alegre Conjunto Music Festival, which was scheduled for May 1-3 at The BARn and at Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater.
"We have decided to cancel our festival this year because our priority is the safety of our fans, our musicians, staff and the general public. There will be plenty more music in the future and we will see everyone in 2021 and at our events later this year when the danger has passed," said Executive Director Baldomero "Frank" Cuellar. "On that note, we beg everyone to take this seriously and stay home. We ask other organizers, promoters and venues (in Tejano and Conjunto music especially) to seriously consider cancelling their events for the next couple of months and heed the warnings from the experts. This is not a time to party, it is not a hoax, nor is it media hype. This is a potentially deadly situation and we must look out for our friends, family and communities. Be safe and stay healthy."
Rancho Alegre's Sunday Tardeada series at One-2-One Bar is scheduled to begin on March 29 with Roadhouse Conjunto. An official statement from the venue on its Facebook page says that they are working on pay system for an all streaming platform "for bands that want to continue to play live shows without a live audience." Information on these shows will be available soon.
